Workshop: He Karanga ki te Reo – Inviting te reo Māori into your ceremonies

Two evening Zooms: Thursday 25 September & Wednesday 8th October 2025

$95.00 incl. GST

Following close on Māori Language Week, this workshop is for celebrants who would like to incorporate more te reo Māori in their ceremonies but who want to be more confident and competent in what they offer. Building on the previous workshop series held in July, this series will still be for those in the earlier stages of their language development, although newer celebrants with greater Māori language fluency may also find this beneficial.

Karen Tangaere, Ngāti Porou, celebrant, teacher, will guide you to help overcome common barriers in a supportive, uplifting environment that gently reduces fear, encourages correct pronunciation, and builds cultural understanding.

You will explore:

  • opportunities to use te reo Māori in your ceremonies
  • pronunciation of the Māori words you commonly use
  • practising popular readings, karakia and blessings

You will get answers to your questions and concerns, and can to contribute to the syllabus. This 2 session workshop allows time to practise and embed your learning.

Note that the sessions fall on a Thursday and a Wednesday respectively. If you miss a session we will send a recording but nothing beats real-time practice!

This is ceremony specific training – designed by celebrants for celebrants, so seize the day, YOLO, you only live once – or as this whakataukī reminds us “Ehara i te tī e wana ake” – the life of a human is unlike the tī (cabbage tree) that continuously springs forth new shoots.

Please enrol before 21 September.
